Welcome to Healthy Schools Newcastle

Making a difference to children and young people's health and wellbeing

A healthy school promotes the health and wellbeing of its pupils and staff through a well planned, taught curriculum in an environment that promotes learning and healthy lifestyle choices.

It is important to form healthy habits during childhood because they make a difference to the health and wellbeing choices children and young people make as they grow up, which in turn help to contribute towards the reduction of health inequalities later in life.  Schools, parents/carers and communities all play an important role in helping children to lead healthy lifestyles.

The Healthy Schools Newcastle Programme is a robust and structured quality assurance framework which supports schools to become healthy environments.  It uses a whole school approach to support and influence children and young people’s health and wellbeing behaviours, assisting them to reach their full potential.
